The Winery

Some buildings are more than just structures. The special ones give you a sense of place, a feel for the heart of the people who live and work in them, a tactile sense of the terrain on which they are built. Just as a good wine makes us experience the world through our senses, tasting the earth, air and water from which the fruit came, to step inside an extraordinary building is to gain a deeper experience of the world around you. The Penner-Ash winery, completed in 2005, is such a place. Nestled into a hillside overlooking the Chehalem Valley, the building seems to spring from the land itself and reflects our values, spirit and winemaking philosophy.
Penner-Ash Pinot noirs and Syrahs are often described as “elegant and earthy, structured and thoughtful.” We make our wines with a desire to break down barriers and to expose the winemaking mystery – to do away with pretense and bring us closer to the source.

Tasting Room

Our tasting room is open to the public Monday thru Sunday from 11:00am – 5:00pm. We request that groups of six or more please call to make an appointment.
Winery Tours are available 7 days a week at 10:00am and 2:00pm by appointment only. Some dates may be unavilable due to special events. Please call for reservations. Our new sustainable, gravity-flow winery is surrounded by our estate Dussin Vineyard – an exceptional setting to enjoy one of Oregon’s leading Pinot noir producers.

Wine Reviews

2011 Penner-Ash Pas de Nom Pinot Noir 92 points Bright Ruby. Intense red berry and cherry aromas are complemented by notes of cola, anise and rose oil. Juicy and sharply focused on entry, then fleshier and broader in the mid-palate, offering sappy black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a hint of allspice. A smoky note comes up on the finish, which features gentle tannins and a kick of peppery spices. I like this pinot’s blend of power and vivacity. International Wine Cellar, Josh Raynolds, July/August 2013 2011 Penner-Ash Estate Dussin Pinot Noir 91 points Vivid ruby-red. Smoky cherry and dark berries on the perfumed nose. Plush, palate-coating cherry-cola and mocha flavors show very good depth for the vintage and pick up a sexy floral pastille nuance with air. The smoky note repeats on the finish, which is shaped by silky, nicely integrated tannins. This vineyard is located in the Yamhill-Carlton subzone. International Wine Cellar, Josh Raynolds, July/August 2013 2011 Penner-Ash Shea Pinot Noir 92 points Fresh and open-textured, this is light on its feet but nicely fleshed out with ripe cherry, boysenberry, coffee and delicate spice flavors, lingering easily on the refined finish. Wine Spectator Insider, August 2013
