Nestled on the west hills of the Hood River Valley, Phelps Creek offers stunning views of the Columbia Gorge and Mt. Hood. Our small
boutique winery focuses on estate grown Pinot Noir and Chardonnay; annually producing 5,000 cases total of all our varietals. We first
planted our grapes in 1990 and now nurture 30 acres (25 Acres of Pinot Noir, 4.5 acres of Chardonnay and 1/2 acre of Pinot Gris)
Grape growing takes center stage in the production of Phelps Creek wines. Each craft bottling distinctly expresses the Columbia Gorge
AVA. Bright, rich fruit flavors layer upon lingering mineral tones drawn from deep and complex volcanic soils. We restrict the vines to
minuscule yields, ensuring quality over quantity. Extraordinary care leads to extraordinary wines.
In The Vineyard
Subscribing to the adage that “Pinot Noir is farmed not made”, vineyard care takes center stage in our wine production.
Sustainable agricultural practices combined with careful management of the fruit yields on the vines leads to the noted intensity of
our bottlings. “Hanging” less grapes adds labor and cost, but there are no shortcuts when the goal is the finest expression of a
specific vineyard in the wine.
Our first Pinot Noir vines were planted in 1989, and two years later we added a block of Dijon clone Chardonnay. Incrementally
we expanded the vineyards and now they total 30 acres. In addition to our estate grown fruit, we enjoy long-term relationships
with some of the most desirable vineyards throughout the Columbia Gorge AVA.
